Default A first try at Relief...Cats

This is my first Relief on Basswood. 3 1/2 x 8
Did some years ago on some canes, this is the first try on a flat surface trying to get some depth. Will need a lot of practice and looking forward to it!

Good beginning piece. Get the feel for relief carving, and the secret remains : practice, practice, practice.

I agree with Bob,

good first piece. What do you have in mind for your next piece? also there is a lot of talent here that will offer help , on your next one consider a work in process. It will be like have instructors looking over your shoulder. It will increase the learning curve you will be amazed at how much you will learn from it.

That is a cute looking sign. I'm still new to the relief carving stuff so I won't comment other than to say it looks pretty good to me.

Ash:
Will definately describe my next one as a WIP...
Am working on a polyglot type of Relief with different species of animals.
Hopefully my learning curve will move ahead! Meanwhile having fun getting there!!

Hi B, good first effort and I think you learned a lot with this one. Each one you do will get better and better. There is no short cuts and I know you have the well to make it work.
Looking, forward to your next piece.
