Default Re: First Post/First Greenman

hi, i just found this thread, and though i am late i like to say that i enjoy your first greenman. really nice work, with already a lot of details in first try. and i like how you got the eyes so expressive. well done.... yes, you say you had trouble with depth of nose. seems to me, all new carver have this, me too, and i still struggle with that issue, all my first noses were way too flat...i found recently a nice way to achieve a good depth. just start making nose, and fix a depth you think is good, but still not cut nostrils (this is detail for later). then measure, probably you see is not enough, then bravely (!) cut in on both sides of nostrils, and only there, to make the required depth. it will proabably look ugly for a short moment, but not worry. then, smooth out every thing, like cheeks, and area under the nose, you will see things start looking great, and now cut nostrils in. works pretty good, is worth a try i think... anyway, yours is a relief carving, andfrom front the nose reads great, so i think with this piece you did right already.. :-) ... thanks for sharing

Bart and Caroliner Carver=Thanks for the comments!
Doris=Thanks for the instruction on carving noses. I will try it next time. I know I have a problem of jumping to carve details too quickly. I did that several times with this piece.
