Thanks Forrest I hate that the photos didn't come out good a carving with no color is hard to get a good photo of.I'm looking foward to carving another one as soon as i get time to make another egg i worked for about a hour to just get the egg carved thats slow work with a knife and sandpaper.Thank you all for your nice comments. windsong |

Great idea! This looks like a lot of fun! Congratulations! Someone gave me a painted wooden egg for Easter a few years back...I thought at the the time..."You shouldnt Have." Now I think I will dig it out and maybe carve something on it! How cool you carved a scene instead of the usual faces I have seen. Just great! Congratuilations...Again!!

Nice piece, Windsong. The advice I saw above on being careful of the eggs you buy is good. Most of the eggs you are going to find in craft shops are in birch or some other hard wood - easier to turn fast. You will want to buy from some woodcarving supplier - bass is best, I saw buternut mentioned. I didn't know the difference at first and did my first few eggs in craft store variety - hours in a hard wood. I buy them from Larry Yudis, Davenport, IA, at 100 a shot, obviously a better price that way. Enjoy. John K Karver |
