Smile First Chip Carving

Hey:
I have not posted in quite some time, so there is no time like right now! I have been busy with carving Wayne Shinlever's Santa's (12) for Xmas gifts this year, but I also took up the chip carving knife too. I just finished this one of interlocking circles, but had a few mistakes, but thats OK too. I'll keep it for a learnig board! Check it out and see what ya think.

Have a Happy Turkey Day!

Rich

You are going to have to point out the mistake, and if you have to do that its not enough to matter. If I could do that I would be over joyed, Looks great to me.

Your first chip carving is excellent! Even though one might see the minor breakouts, they do not detract from the general appearance - - and you have likely learned how delicate narrow ridges and points can be crosswise to the grain.

Nice work. Had to look a while to find the boo-boo. You can always offset that if the piece breaks out in a way you can include it in the carving. For instance, if that had happened at the straight up or 12 o'clock position, you could have copied it at the 6 or even at each 15 minute point on the circle. Your work looked really good as far as I can tell from the pics. And yes, it does kind of get addictive. The worse part for me was the drawing segment.
