Default finished with this project?

I downloaded these pictures and started to try relief carving. I dont know what else to do or does it look finished? I am out of ideas.

The insect looks great. I think the other needs more definition between the layers which could be accomplished with some undercutting.

When you are through with the center,go back and carve down all three{top and the two sides}leaving the back ground boardless and flat with out thoses uneven looking framed edges. Then stain or paint it. Hope this might have helped you some.

Heres a relief carving of some bears carved in a old found board even had holes in it.I run a carving off the edges at times. Hope this might help you some.

I'll keep ck'n on this carving,you did a good job carving the center of it.

Joy Is right. Undercutting will bring out this carving with some "snap" and give the illusion of depth. I'm not very fond of painting, but some carvers can really pull it off. I've seen a lot of carvings with just an oiled finish that were fantastic and by the same token I've seen painted ones that were great! Follow your own ideas is the best advise.
