Default Egyptian Guardian Jewelry box.

. I made two boxes both of them have drove me up the wall.... and all I can say is the people who do a lot of chip carving must have tons more patience then I do! Trying to make each hole the same as the other... I can see that I won't be doing much more then these, cross eyed and could not wait to get it over with. You chip carvers win my praise!!!. Anyway the lion is Shawn Cipa pattern...as you know I love his myth lore work. This is Egyptian Lion....his pupils of eyes are made of real gold. I saw old statue in my book that was a lion that had toe nails, teeth, eyes and ear rings made of real gold...but it was stolen so all that was left was the holes. I thought wow what a cool idea.... I was making toe nails when I realized I did not have enough gold...so later perhaps? The small box I am still chipping out. Basswood lion is BLO, then stain with oil walnut, dry brushed highlights, matte enamel finish. Eyes 24K gold.. with metallic green enamel. Bass wood box is stain black then brushed with gold enamel and red enamel...sprayed finish matte enamel. In spite of all the problems it does not look half bad.... Di

Great work, and a nice blend of different carving "schools" too.

Di,
Everytime I see your work, a WOW escapes my lips. This piece is no exception. Beautiful work. Whoever gets this is one very lucky person.

Great work.

Di,

I'd say they look considerably better than "not half bad" - beautiful work, and I particularly like the finish on the lions. Keep up the great work and keep posting.

Hi Di,

You've got patience to match your talent. I would have given up half way through. But, it came out beautifully.

I love anything Egyptian. My living room is full of stuff like sarcophagus and egyptian statues. I was planning on carving a sarcophagus with a mummy inside. I have even drawn an example, but my mind is more skillful then my hands at this moment. But I truly love your pieces, the colors you used are AMAZING. Great work.

For about 15 years or longer I made vessels with Egyptian female faces on them, study their mythology during college and beyond. Everyone that bought my work wanted to know about Egypt...so finally I went there to study the art and I can say I think it has the most outstanding work I have ever seen!! ....I dump out my clothes and came back with things that I collected over there. I have two rooms of my home is nothing but (Mostly not real) Egyptian art. My favorite is these two super large wooden sarcophagus from Bali. The work is outstanding....perhaps I send you a few shots... if you want? You know something your hands will follow your mind, you just need to keep on working at it...and working at it. Also I got a few books on artist homes...you know they collect objects, and art like I do ...and it does not have to be real.... also the best advice I ever got was this lady told me, she collects files on subjects which is cut out of anything and everything... now you can collect photos on the net also... but I have about 25 years of collecting photos and other peoples art to study and to file. I never have to leave my studio, I have my files of everything and anything I am interested in or may be interested in and every year I add new files, my books and the net which will give all the information I need to know and study.
