Sounds like fun Thomas. I agree with your assesment of scrap. I find myself challenged by an odd shaped scrap that gets the creative jiuces flowing in a way a square hunk of wood sometimes doesn't.

Another thought fellas, how about making a natural wooden bead necklace for the ladies in your life. Natural wooden beads are really popular now (left natural or painted). If you make the length long enough you don't have to mess with the metal findings. She can just slip the necklace over her head. You can mix and match wooden beads with acorns etc. Just a thought sure to get you lots of hugs.

I am going to try to relate this reply to chip carving...and scraps. While displaying at a carving show recently I had some fun with scraps. You all may know that I really like to carve small things. At this show I had a 12 inch little Christmas tree with very small Santa ornaments on it. These Santas were about 1/4 inch, and there were about 16 on the tree. Well I usually sit and carve at these events, and this was no exception. Heard lots of comments about the tiny Santas and if I cut myself much. When I was bored I picked up a small chip from the floor and my Stanley No. 199. About that time a young fellow walking by came to a screeching halt, and stared at me shakin his head; said you all got to be XXXX me! Now and then I do carve some chips, but not with the No 199. But I didn't tell him that.

Amazing what people who don't carve will believe or think, Tom. How many times have you had to answer the question - what kind of wood is that? Glad to hear you are keeping them thinking.
