Default What to do with scraps?

I hate throwing away scrap wood. I know I should, but it's wood!!! I teach several Jr High carving classes so I prepare all kinds of blanks. Ther is always some odd cut left. These reliefs are some efforts to salvage cut offs. Hope you like them. I do. Look forward to comments and questions. The planks are about 1/2 inch thick.

John, excellent use of scrap wood super painting too! I have a hard time throwing away scap wood too. I have a large basket where I store scrap wood. Here lately, I have been cutting small squares to make wooden beads for jewelry. I also, use scrap wood when I'm making Kachina dolls and need to carve sashes, arms, hands etc. So save those scrapes they have a use.

While most of my scraps end up in the woodstove or woodbox I'm glad to see you're turning your's into useful and really neat items. Those are clever!

Thank you everyone.

Lonnie, I like your idea, per your email, of the rocks and mt goats.

Kathy, Do you do beads out of bass too?

Sliver, where should I send the saw dust my wife hates?

Lynn - Always a question - is it a waste of time, should those small pieces be thrown out in favor of spending time on larger work? Of course the topic at our house, for me - is it a hobby or a job? For me it's a hobby, so... enjoy it, large carvings or small.

Thanks Michael

John. Anytime spent carving, no matter whether it's on something you consider "important" or just to pass the time till you think up something else is wasted. Like those piano lessons we had to take when we were kids it's the practice that makes you better and the more you do that the better you become. With those little carvings you did you got the practice and also ended up with some things that are really clever and will be treasured by someone. That's certainly not wasted time!
