Default Depth of cut

I just started chip carving this week. I have a piece of 3 x 1/2 x 24 basswood I've been practicing on. It seems like all the three-corner chips I cut don't match up correctly. I can see cut lines where one cut is deeper than the one next to it. I read somewhere that if/when I finish the board, the gaps will close up. Is this true? Any tips on how to better gauge the depths of my cuts?

Newbie, I think that is called practice, practice, practice. You have picked , in my mind, probably the most exacting style of carving there is. But after a few thousand of those cuts, you will have it down pat.

Good luck, Tom

I don't think any stray cuts will heal themselves. You'll just be less focussed on them. Tom Ellis is right - it just takes lots of practice.
