Default Dahl Sheep Ram

Just finished a relief seminar with Fred and Elaine Stenman. This is the project I chose. Had to finish it up at home.......slow, as usual!

I like the colors you chose to use. The horns really look 3-D the way you've carved them. Excellent carving.

Hi Al,

Great job. I like the detailing, especially the hair and horns.

Very well done Al, shows that you have the patience required for relief carving. Beautiful scene.

Thanks to you all for the kind comments. Sorry it took so long to respond, but my neighbor and I have been tied up repainting the street signs in our neighborhood...trying to tidy up the town a bit.

This relief was my first rry at doing an animal (other than fish) so it proved to be a challenge. The Stenmans are great instructors, though and led me through the process with only minor difficulty. I did vary from their technique a bit and let the grain in the wood do most of the background definition. Very little opaque paint and mostly washes except for the ram itself and the snow on the peaks.
