Default Couple of firsts

This is my first attempt at a relief carving, the image is 5.5 x 7.5 x .5 inches deep. It wasn't the best piece of wood to work with but I really enjoyed trying something new and will definately be doing more relief carvings.
This was also my first attempt with oil paints. I thinned them with danish oil (not sure if that's the right way or not but it seemed to work). It seemed to cover easier then acrylics so I will probably continue to use oil when I have larger areas to cover. The only problem I came across was I painted the black first and it dried darker then I thought it would, so I had to make everything else darker to match.
I also included a before paint picture for compairison. Any comments/critiques welcome. Thanks for looking

Eric

The paint added a lot of depth. I like it.

It looks good. As this is your first trial with relief carving, you have good chance to reach very good results!

Very nice job...especially for a first attempt! The oil paint looks great on there!

Eric, nice job! Next time you might consider linseed oil instead of Danish. Just a thought.
