Smile Chip Carved plate

I would like to share this with everyone, as I just finished it this morning. It is a 10 inch outside rim bead plate. I used a cherry gel stain on it, followed by 3 coats of satin lacquer. I had a lot of trouble pulling the knife through the rock hard basswood, but it did make it to the finishing table!

Thanks for looking..

Rich

Thanks for the compliments! The plate was rock hard, so I had a couple of broken chips, but it turned out a lot better than I ever expected! It was a fun carve though.

I really like the contrast and the design is really great. May I ask how you dealt with hard basswood. I'm having problems. Either the Basswood is dry or the Flexcut is a lot less sharp than it feels.

Very nice plate, it looks fantastic and such a neat job on the cuts. The design is very dramatic also. I like it.
