Last month, I was invited to do a display of my work and give a lecture , in celebration of Heritage Week. The theme this year was The Forest and my lecture was titled: "Making Art from Forest Products". Young Ryan , my apprentice, was my able assistant and I had him display his completed works as well, and he really enjoyed the whole experience. One thing that I did notice that I lacked was a display sign to sit among the work and identify the carver/artist. So, once the display was restored to my studio, I went to work and designed something that should fit in and work. As the overall theme of my work is the sea, I went with that angle. The piece is carved in Basswood, measures 15" x 10", the letters are cut in and then burned. I think it works okay. What do you think? Bob

Wonderful sign Bob. I am glad to hear you mention your apprentice again. How rewarding it must be to encourage him and to see his interest grow. Christina |

Bob, wonderful sign. To marry what you love to do with the necessity of simply saying who you are is wonderful. Al, your idea is great; but changing the red, white and blue to the maple leaf might be a little difficult.

Bob, you hit on a good theme for discussion as I found myself in the same position a few weekends ago when I didn't have any identifying signage to have in the background. Your sign makes sense as your the guru of boat carving and making. I'm thinking of an Irishman theme given my carving handle. I'll have to think on this some more and come up with something to display. Patrick |

Worthy of being on a wall with motion triggered spot lights.
