I like this carving! I like it very much ... I do hope that you will post the next one you do before you paint it as I can't quite see the depth you are getting because of the coloring ...

Now, if I can make one suggestion, please. If the grass is green there are leaves on the tree ... If it's winter because there are no leaves then the grassy areas will be white from snow.

I'm getting a double message here of seasons ... or that's a dead tree in their yard, which I don't think it is .. ?

I like this one, too. And I'm looking forward to seeing more of your series on the old churches. I have several photos that I've taken of some old mission churches down in Baja if you would like them for reference.

These are not in the same architectural style as your other church carving, but are interesting subjects, none the less.

I'm not sure I agree with Susan about the tree, though, even if I can see her point. I think it provides an interesting element to the scene.

One BIG question, though. How in the world did you manage to get your right foot into the upper left corner of the photo, when the picture is taken from dead center front?

Al

Thanks for the replies. That is my son's foot in the pic. I was wanting to make the mountains fall colors, but wasn't sure how to do that. May God BLess YOu All,
Thomas

Thomas,

Get yourself a sea wool sponge, either real or synthetic. That's a sponge that has large random holes throughout it. Cut a couple of sheets of wax paper to protect the areas surrounding the mountains ... the sky and that wonderful river area.

Then put your colors on a tile or plate, yellows, golds, oranges and reds. Dip the sponge in the paint ... pat it a couple of times on the tile to remove the extra, then pat it on your mountains.

The sea wool sponge will leave random touches of color and When you change colors it will blend on your carving.

Practice a few times on a scrap board before you do it to this nice carving.

Susan
