| | Re: Buffalo WIP Hi Mel, thank you I just about have the background finished and I'm eager and timid to start the next layers...five in all including the background.
We'll have to ask Susan about the sex of the buffalo. Just guessing I'd say a male--not sure the females get such nice horns. Will update soon

| | Re: Buffalo WIP UPDATE
Hi All, here is the next stage--building dimension--no detail yet just shape. For the back ground I used a gouge I like the texture it shows. As this is my first relief carving every step is new for me. I'm going very slow taking my time. Lot's more to do...will update again when further along.

I really like your treebark house in your avatar. Something else to try one day....

Fortunately Susan give specific measurments needed for each level. Lucky for me.

| | Re: Buffalo WIP Hey the buffalo is looking good. BTW those little depth gauges with the clips are great. I recently lost mine and I feel a little lost myself carving without it. |

| | Re: Buffalo WIP Hi Rob, thank you I'm finding that using the depth gauge helps to keep your levels consistant--which is what you need to happen.
I did a little more on it yesterday rounding off the outer edges of each level. Now I start on stage (4) the chin and forehead areas then move on to the facial sections. Hope you are enjoying being a member of WCI. It's a great place to learn and make new friends.

| | Re: Buffalo WIP Those depth gauges are pretty handy, I got mine given to me and didn't know what it was for when I first got. I thought it was a little ruler, that you could adjust so you wouldn't tear a hole in your pocket

| | Re: Buffalo WIP LOL Mel, I knew about them as my dear old Dad an auto-mechanic (when you could work on car's without a computer) always had one along with a tire pressure gauge, ballpoint pin and small writing pad in this shirt pocket.
