Default Bowl

A good exercise on a bad quality wood
It's a good way to know how many sharp your knife is. If at the end of the work on this alder bowl you haven't made errors , it means that you are a good chip-carver

Very pretty. Why do you say the wood was bad quality?

It looks very good from here.

I see a few imperfections in the wood, but you made it beautiful.

This is fine work, Masso.

I am planning to do a piece in alder, that will also include some elements of chip carving. Was it your particular piece of wood that gave you trouble, or alder in general? Do tell...

Oh I don't know...the objects in alder here in Italy are always of the same quality....for me it's not a good wood, expecially if you are going to make an important work....every chip you carve must have a special attention even if the result can be good (to much time for one chip...i can't explain in english sorry, i hope you understand...)...but it's only my opinion.
I hope alder in USA will be better than in Italy
I suggest you to use linden wood (basswood is the same in english?).

Masso,
What is the size of the bowl? I did not see that information. Great work again! Where is the part you put your mouth on to smoke the tobacco in the bowl?
Haaaa! Just kidding.
