Is anyone using the chip carving border template? I have had one for some time and just now are getting around to figuring out how to use it. I have received the instructions from "mychipcarving" and still does not make sense. I can't get the *$#@ thing to provide a pattern. I would really like to find a template pattern with english measures (1/4 "). The 4mm squares look so small I can hardly carve. Any one have some instructions or better a picture for this slow learner. BTW thanks for all the responses I read. Great stuff! |

Are you referring to the aluminum template? I have one of those and it works fine for me. The 4mm sq. are a good size for beginners because the knife doesn't have to go real deep into the wood to create a chip. I use a Incra Tiny "T" to help me out with the horizontal border lines and it is in english measurements. Buy Tiny T-rule, INCRA Tiny "T" Rule, Rulers And Tapes - Woodcraft.com Good Luck!

Thanks Carver Maybe I can explain my problem a bit clearer; I have the aluminum border template. The top two guides are indeed 4mm wide. the space between the top guide and the one below it is wider than 4mm. I assume one needs to move the template to align with the top previous marked line? That would create 4 lines, 8mm top to bottom? But the vertical guides are 12mm and 17mm and overlap the horizontal lines. Looking at the incra tool you use, is it the 6" or the 12". It looks as though the 12" would help with both vertical and horizontal?? |

I actually use a 3" but I have a 6" also. I have a set of insturctions for that template and if you would like them I can email them to you?
