Default Bible Box

I finally finished the basswood / walnut bible box that I showed in the "Sound Off - What's on your workbench ..." thread a couple of weeks ago.

This was my first attempt at chip carving on an actual project. I planned on doing a woodburning too, but decided to stay with just chip carving.

I finished the box with 2 coats Min-Wax Antique Oil and 2 coats Johnsons Paste Wax. The inside of the lid was stained with Min-Wax Gel Stain (walnut) for a different visual effect.

Thanks for looking.

In my opinion that's an outstanding box. Nothing more to say.

Thank you for the kind comments!

It was my first attempt at an actual project, I've done many practice cuts until I felt confident in using the knives.
I finally said to myself, "enough practice, time to get er done!"

I agree with all of the above. Fantasticaly nice job!! Inspiring even. I've done a lot of practicing with chip carving myself, but haven't done anything real with it yet, (my to do list is kind of inhibiting me). Beautiful box, especially for your first time out. Love the lettering!!! Did you do the jointing as well?
