Thumbs Up Hey Stacey, wow lucky client to have commissioned such a wonderful work of art. How large is the door and could we see an image of the whole door? I think the impact would be even more outstanding. What was your deepest depth--the cub's viewers rt. really casts a super shadow and the viewers right side of the mother also.

thanks guys, i really appreciate your comments.
Kathy, the door is 36"w 8' tall the panel is about 16"w 30"tall. the deepest cut is about 7/8 of an inch, when i go back up to the big city again i will get a pic of the whole door if it's still there.

Wonderful carving. I'm sure the carving will be cherished for generations.
I do want to ask if the door was custom made? or if you made it? are you a fine woodworker as well as a carver? and also, what kind of wood is it? From your description, it sounds like it must be very thick wood to be able to cut 7/8" into it.
It sure did turn out nicely. The relief work is so gently done with the edges making such clear definitions. It's something I'm trying to achieve, but haven't gotten the hang of at all. It makes me really admire your work all the more.

No i don,t make my own doors ,its better too have somebody make them that nows what they are doing.
most of my doors, mantels are Alder
and are 2" thick, my next project
will be a full panel door. the panel will be 21/4" thick with a Peace of 1/2" alder
plywood laminated on the back side
to give it more strength, then i can go about 1 3/4" deep, should be interesting
too do. as far as your carvings go they look super to me, just keep doing what you are doing and you will get there.
