Default Basswood Citrus Juicer - Chip Carved

I made this at the request of my spouse. It started out as a 1.5 x1.5 by 12 block.

I shaped it to the general shape of handle, guards, and bulbs on the ends with my knife. Afterwards I chip carved the ridges in the bulbs and the decorative flowers on the hand guards. As you can see I had a bit of trouble with the ridges breaking off.

I finished it with gel stain to make the carving stand out and finished with two heavy coats of spar urethane to seal it tight.

Critiques and tips appreciated.

Thanks Gary. It was immediately given a place in the kitchen utensil drawer, right next to the rolling pin, and plastic soup scoop. I think that means it'll stay.

Thanks Gene and Joy. I'm concerned that the ridges won't hold up under heavy use myself so I'll keep and eye on it and let you know how it does.

Hi kitaye, this is great and you accomplished some really nice cutes and round smooth hand grip. Very nice!
