Default "Aries" Zodiac Mask Challenge 2007

Its that time .... time for a new challenge!

We have previously offered scrollers a challenge called the "Mentora" Dragon Challenge 2006. where each scroller was to complete the design and interpret it how they wished, and were allowed to be creative!

This new challenge we wanted to include carvers in because we are trying to learn, and the best way for me to learn carving is to see what others are doing. I'd be very interested to see what carvers can do with the "Aries" Zodiac Mask Challenge.

If you are at all familar with Sue (Chrestensen's) masks, you might have an idea what to expect. It is a whimiscal, odd creation.... LOL. "Aries" Zodiac mask lets you be as creative as you wish!

So, let the game begin. If you are interested in taking part in the "Aries" Zodiac Mask Challenge, email us and send us your email address and real name so we can include you in any of the future promotions of the completed pieces.

Take care
Toni

Hey Toni,
I'll let you post this here if you post some photos of your chip carving attempts <GRIN>

Bob, I've just finished watching some chip carving dvd's and playing with knives. I am trying to work out "Got Seed" ... ya I know... it might be a little too advanced to begin with but the small grids just don't hold my attention.

I'll post something when I can ... honest.

Take care
Toni

LOL, ok Bob, remember you asked to see it. Giggle. Here is my first attempt, well atleast in part, of taking the scrolled pattern for "Got Seeds" and carving it. I am really just playing with the knives here so far, and didn't give much consideration to the depth and perspective of the carving.

I am pleased with the handles on these knives (chip carving knives) and will be looking for something similar when it comes to relief carving tools. Guess I have to go back to Chipping Away and do even MORE shopping. ah shucks.

Take care
Toni

Nice work!!! I like it! Those knives will get you started with relief carving; visit Lora Irish's site before you go to chipping away again; She sells (and reccomends) a nice set of chisels that are also available through Dennis!
