Default Another over the door plaque

I did the sail boat plaque for my dad and two of these rose carvings for the inlaws.

BTW...Thanks to Thor for the idea!

You're welcome, but you're onto your own thing for sure.
I admire what you have done.
I call mine house blessings, and incorporate symbolism from mythology or things I make up. Yours are really terrific.

Got a couple quick questions for ejnelson or Thor....or both.....

1) What thickness wood are you using?

2) How wide do you make the plaques?

3) How to you mount them? I would think just setting them on the door trim would be a bit risky.

Thanks,
Mike

3) How to you mount them? I would think just setting them on the door trim would be a bit risky. I routed a keyhole in the back. If they are set on the door casing, a screw in the wall keeps them from falling over. In the my dad's situation the doors don't have any casing and the plaque will have to be hung by the keyhole mount.

Thanks,
Mike
These were fun and fairly quick projects. I think I may have to make one for myself now!

I have used 3/4" thick white pine and 1" thick cypress for the ones I have completed. It depends on where they are placed, but many of mine have been permanently installed in the houses, and others, plus the ones displayed in the gallery have a similar mount to ejnelson's. I use a fortner bit angled upwards dead center in the carving to hang on one nail. The disired look is to have it hang flush with the wall, and that works well.

Christina, I just went to your web site. You have made some very nice items. I really liked the Nordic ship on the box!
