Default Acanthus leaves Norsk Wood Works class project...

This is the bread board that I carved while taking a 5 day class in Wisconsin in September. I also carved a sampler board of the elements involved in the acanthus leaves that is going to be very helpful as I try to continue getting better skilled at this disciplined style. I am not a natural, and this was very challenging for me.

The class was amazing and most of the other carvers were very good at this already, as they attend the class every year while working on a new project or continuing one that has been in progress for years. I was so impressed and wish I could go every year as well.
Their web site is: Norsk Wood Works -- Norwegian Wood Carvers and Carving Woods

It was carved in basswood from that area.

Thanks for the comments. I am really proud of this piece, but the real test is to see if I can do it again in my studio without instruction. I have a piece cut out and ready to go to make one just like it. We'll see.

Nicely done. I want to do one but haven't gotten there yet. Looks like you're a fast learner.
