What do you call this? Is it relief, pierced, or pierced relief carving?

I'd call it an awesome piece of carving, but we're not allowed to use that word any more! So I'll call it splendid! Well done.

I would agree that it is high or deep relief carving. I remember the rails on a table at our church where you could put your finger behind the vines or leaves. I think of pierced as cutting through the piece to the back, leaving openings or "windows" thru the carving.

Excellent carving! I don't think the words matter much either. You have an original style. I also enjoyed viewing your "fish cup" and dragon.
