| | 1st shallow relief Hello,
I just finished my 1st relief carving,I took a class at Fredericksburgh,Texas. Although I am not new to carving
this is a new concept for me. My instructor was very patient which made the class very enjoyable. I enjoyed it so much I plan on doing more shallow relief in the near future. Thanks for looking and all comments are welcome.
Bill

| | Re: 1st shallow relief Nice work......was that instructor either Fred or Elaine Stenman? They winter down in that area of Texas, and I have heard they added some animals to their repitoire. Anyway, if anyone is interested in this style carving, Fred and his wife Elaine will be in our area (western Upper Michigan) on August 19 through the 21st to instruct a 3 day seminar sponsored by our carving club, the Gogebic Range Woodcarvers. Cost will be $90 and includes material and if you need tools, they seem to have them, too! Lunch will be extra, usually around $4 a day and will be pasty or subs.
Stenmans will be at the Boulder Jct. Wisconsin carving exposition on the 13th -18th, but we have a better time!
Material and pattern selection can be seen at www.stenmanstudios.com
Hey, I snuck a commercial in!

| | Re: 1st shallow relief Bill, beautiful definition between the horse and the background. That is exactly what you want when doing a low relief! And the knee joint on the front leg is perfect! Great job.

| | Re: 1st shallow relief Thanks everyone for the kind comments, ever since I began carving @ 3-4 yrs.ago I always thought the relief carvings were the prettiest,I was always reluctant to try carving them because I thought they would be too hard, I found out (for me) they are most enjoyable.Al my instructor for this class was from a lady named Wanda Reichert she lives in Texas, she also teaches power carving and her fish is beautiful.

| | Re: 1st shallow relief Hi Bill, sorry I'm late getting my 'well none' to you. I love relief carving and like you I thought it would be to hard. I find it very relaxing--well except the hogging out part. Once that is accomplished the noise lessens and the consentration begins--which relaxes me. Especially after all the mallet and chisel work.
Looking forward to seeing more reliefs from you.

| | Re: 1st shallow relief Nice work Bill. Relief carving is a favorite, though it takes the most effort, it also offers the most rewards. Good start on carving, enjoy!
