To check for messages you have to look at sign in box in upper right corner or check you personal profile.
Problem 1. Newbies might not realize this.
2. If you never got a message you might not look for one.
3. If you do check at log-in and msg is sent after, you wont see it until
next log-in.
4. Its frustrating trying to communicate something that is timely,
knowing that the person is logged in and probably wont see the
msg.

Is it possible to alert the sendee at log-in and while logged in of any msgs new or old - maybe with a beep or some other wake-up?

I'll check with Claudio. I know you can set it through your UserCP to give you a pop-up message when you have a new message, but in the age of pop-up blockers, this isn't very useful. There's no way to make it beep or anything like that...

When I have a private message waiting for me - I get a pop-up notice I can't miss or ignore. And I keep my pop-up blocker set very high.
Other message boards I visit have only a small notice in upper right that's very easy to miss.
IMHO the messages here work just great.
