| | WCI Projects - suggestion Bob,
I recently purchased copies of all the issues I currently did not have and as I was reviewing each issue for artlicles that particularly interested me, I noted one defiency.
As an overly simplified example, the current issues has the creation of some earrings for which an earring post is required. Since I admittingly am not closely in touch with my feminine side I have no clue where to purchase one.
This is probably an issue with other articles as well. The first issue contains the competition for nametags, I would like to make one but don't know where to get the back.
I would love to try carving cyprus knees but there's none that I know of in Western, NY.
These are just some of the cases, is it possible for the authors to include where they obtained or readers can obtain the supplies for these projects especially when dealing with a non-standard item?
Thanks for your time.

We normally try to do this...but we don't do it for every article. Thanks for pointing that out.
I'd check our advertising directory first--but for the earrings, most craft stores that sell jewelry making materials should have them.
I'll see what I can find.

| | Re: WCI Projects - suggestion The earring posts are not needed as I do not plan to carve that project, it was used as an example of the hurdles many readers face. We see an exciting project but are not sure where to get some of the supplies. |

Thanks for the great links! Unfortunately, my computer is not in my "man cave" and it is not always convenient. |

I made up and attached a quick sketch of a pin back that you could bend out of stiff stainless steel craft wire to the size you need in the event you can't locate any pin backs.
Then just glue it to the back of the pin with epoxy or Gorilla Glue.
Hope that helps.

| | Re: WCI Projects - suggestion These kinds of things can usually be found back in the crafts section of Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc. They are somewhere in the vicinity of beads and other jewelry making supplies. I know that you're talking in generalities, but this is just a quick locator.
I agree with those kind of notes being needed with projects that are featured. Those of us who are scavengers with a stash of supplies to do about anything, sometimes take it for granted that everyone knows where to get these specialty items. Good Pointl

| | Re: WCI Projects - suggestion Thanks for the info guys. Donna, I usually shop for my paints @ Michael's but haven't really checked out the whole store. But you are right, I was talking in generalities, not a genuine need.
When I took a class from Phil & Viki Bishop this summer I had the opportunity to ask phil what he used as rope in his carvings that seems to traverse the whole area of the carving...his reply was that he uses reeds like the one's used in basket weaving...ok so there is an item I'll have to check my local store for...but yes, it just would be nice to discuss the shooping list. Thanks again for all the responses. |

| | Re: WCI Projects - suggestion I have a suggestion. Have your wife find some old earings that she don't care about & salvage parts from them.
