Angry Sloooooooow message board speed

This really isn't a big complaint or even something that can be fixed on your part but I thought that I'd throw it into the "feeding trough" nonetheless.

I. The Local Problem:
First, I'm on a dial-up connection (except for those 3 or 4 times each year when the company is paying for my on-the-road Hampton Inn room with free high-speed... Whoopie!) No. 2 is that I live waaaaaaaaaaaay back in the Blue Ridge boondock's and although the phone company has a dsl tower just a few miles away, they have "tested" my location and said that they can't get the signal into my hollow.

II. The Message Board Problem:
When checking new messages it takes between 2 and 3 minutes to upload a single message page and perhaps about half that time if there are no attachments. ing a new message is not bad and somewhat more reasonable for a dial-up connection. Browsing the carver galleries is almost out of the question.

This has been a consistent problem for the last several weeks that I've been back on the board which is frustrating since I can only respond to the few messages that most appeal to me. It was always somewhat slow in the past but I don't remember it ever being this sloooooooooow.

I noticed that the display of random member galleries on the top of the page is new and I do realize that by the very nature of this being a graphics-heavy message board with everyone posting pictures could possible be a cause of the longer loading time... but still I wish that I could give every poster the attention they deserve.

I regularly browse the chainsaw carving forum and the pages load very, very fast there and almost everyone is posting pictures.

Oh well, I just thought that I'd throw it out there for what it's worth and I'm sure that the Admin. will make it better if they can while I continue to live in the cyber world of the Neanderthal. Meantime, my participation is greatly limited but I'll do my best.

[end rant]

Dave,

With the new changes , it was a bit of a concern. One thing you can do is at the top of the message where the pics show up close that section it will help some . That way your not loading those pics.

Time to sign up for "Wild Blue"!

www.wildblue.com

I got tired of the local dialup two years ago and finally signed up for WildBLue service. WOW! Granted, it's more expensive but believe me you get what you pay for. We started with the 500kps speed for a year but upgraded to the 1mbps about 4 months ago. As we live out in the country there was no access to anything other than the slllooooooowwwwww service we had, normally at 19-21kps.

Check it out. I think AT&T now offers the same service at the same prices. Believe me, you problem will be completely solved by ukpgrading your speed. You'll never go back!

Lynn --- I almost fell off my chair and used all my 26.4 kbps getting to wildblue to sign up. They don't come into my area. ~sigh~

I use www.toast.net.

Nancy.....http://www.nationwidesatellite.com/H...esNet_home.asp

Try this one. It's basically the same as the one I have. I have the Pro plan but with Wild Blue.
