Default Show Photo Etiquette

What’s the proper etiquette for posting photos of other peoples work? For example, I recently participated in a carving show here in NJ. Aside from our club’s table, would it be okay to place the photos I took of the other tables?

Hello Ken, When I am at a show, I just walk up and ask the carver. I have never had one say no yet. Carvers usually love the attention!

It might be a good idea to also note "Photos w/exhibitor permission" when posting to a site like this, so other forum members get the idea.

I've posted others photos but always give info as to how the piece belongs to.

Thanks for the input. That's sort of what I thought and that's why I only posted the photos of my club's table. So what if someone asked for me to send them the photos from the show without posting them on the forum - would that be acceptable?

A picture's worth a thousand words, but one good look is worth a thousand pictures. Show exhibitors are showing their work because they want it to be seen and sometimes judged, and that's best done in person. However, most of us can't make many carving shows, and the photos posted here, in magazines, or on web sites are really useful for those who can't attend shows. I always ask permission, and have never been turned down. ing those photos to this site is something I think is positive recognition for the exhibitors, and a source of ideas for carvers who can't make it to the show. The one thing I won't do is take or post a picture that is so detailed it could be used as an unauthorized pattern. Mike

Could someone from Wood Carving Illustrated please give some insight regarding this subject?
I have a number of photos from a recent show I would like to post and didn't ask permission although in some cases the artist was nearby in some case they were not. I suppose the artists could have asked me to stop - there were many visitors (carvers and general public) doing the same thing. And as mentioned above - none are really that close-up or detailed.
