| | Safety Equipment Hi, I am just starting out in chip carving and have been trying to locate a leg apron to work on. The only site that did sell them no longer stocks them 'chippingaway.com'. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Many Thanks |

| | Re: Safety Equipment I went to my local shoemaker and had him make me one of heavy leather, with a padded patch on the chest for when I'm holding a piece against me to carve. Goes from throat to below the knees.
Used a cotton shop (BBQ) apron before but it was too short and rode up while seated, ended up stabbing my knee just a year ago, so the new one offers better protection.

| | Re: Safety Equipment Thats it! go for it, thats a steal...you can't even buy leather that size for that price! I bought mine for multiple uses, welding to be sure, but grinding especially, and thought for woodcarving, however haven't used it yet, this is a good time of year to use it, will keep you warm lol.....too hot here in the summer to use it for more that a few minutes! |

| | Re: Safety Equipment Ted, When my wife carves, she uses her right leg for a table or support. I was afraid she would slip with the knife and cut herself bad. I took to pieces of 1/4 inch leather 12" x12" and sewed velcore strips on both sides and she wrapes it around her leg and now, if she does slip with the knife , the leather protects her more than a pair of jeans. She has ruined a couple pairs but fortuntantly no cut skin.
What Dave(Hi Ho) posted would work somewhat. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
