If you clear your Temperary internet files out, that will log you off. Security ranking may be set to high.

We took the e-mail others option out through our admin panel because people were using the board to spam our members...What I did was set the options to e-mail me when I received a private message. Otherwise, I'd do what you did and put the e-mail address in the signature line.

At Fox Chapel, we take our member's privacy seriously, and with all the SPAM and viruses today, we decided to error on the side of caution!.

I personally thank you for that Bob I used to get a dozen or so infected files a day. Mind you they were all intercepted by my Norton Anti-Virus, but now I dont get any at all. It is a shame we cant have our emails available but there are too many people out there with nothing better to do than to hack into your system. Thank you again Bob.

Thumbs up Re: Question for admin

Thanks Bob
I was just curious as to why it would not work
I had mine set to receive email from
admin and members
but it was not working

I just did as you suggested and set the IMs
to be auto sent to my email

I am on a couple of groups on MSN and Yahoo
on those groups all messages posted are auto sent to my email
I can respond to those messages from my email by just hitting reply and my reply message will be auto posted on group message forum

Is it possible to do that here or do you need to log in post.
Of course I usually log in daily anyway but was just curious.

I'll have to check with Rob on that...

I'm a writer, not a tech guy!
If I can type, play video games and surf the web, I'm happy!

Bob; If people put their e-mails in their signature which is in plain view on every message they post , the likelihood of getting spam is almost assured.
E-mail harvesters just use software to scan the public messages and pick up the exposed e-mail addresses...and then sell them to scam artists...seems you can't win with these guys.
I'm surprised that anyone is able to spam by using the admin panel to e-mail others , wouldn't they have to be members to use the admin panel?
Also usually with board software the e-mail address is not shown to the person doing the e-mailing or is it with this software?
But what do I know. Talking

OG

On the old board, we couldn't hide member's e-mail, so the spammers used their scanning software to pick them all up. We've hidden the e-mail addresses on this board so people can't...if people want to put their addresses in their signatures, then they assume the risk of putting it out there...It's not something we did or didn't do!

We decided to just hide all e-mails and not allow e-mails from the forum. Members have the option of using the private messages to send their e-mail addresses back and forth, but there again, that is their choice!

When I clicked on your name I got a drop down list that included -view public profile9which has your email), Send a private message to Big-Wayne-P , and view B..W...P's home page. Isn't this what you wanted? maybe it doesn't recognize you when you click on your own name. I will have to try it on mine

No that's not it , it will let me mail myself a message. Don
