There are several of those "Workmate" type tables available at most hardware stores. I just bought one last month but haven't had a chance to put it to work yet. They have either steel or composite legs, and forld flat for storage or transport.. Some have tilting tops, they have two cranks that open the top like a vice and with the supplied bench dogs, can hold pretty large flat pieces for relief carving. I'm trying to figure how to best attach a carving fixture, but I think that would easily clamp between the dogs.

Prices on these range anywhere from around 3o bucks to up around $100. I bought the 30 buck one...might be a mistake, but I don't think so.

those workmates are great in the shop, but for carving are a bit low....I am going to add some extensions to the legs of mine to raise them up a bit. but I use them all the time.

I just went down and mounted that home made carving vice on this folding table, and it works just fine....a good sturdy mount, and will remove with just a crank or two of the handles. The one I bought is a Wolfcraft knockoff of the B&D Workmate, but seems to work just as well. Dave's right..it might be a bit low, but not out of the realm of workability. With that vice mounted, it brings the carving up to "just about right".

Hello,

Sears has a model they call a clamping table. It is height adjustable, and top angle adjustable. Very nice for about $50.00 - $60.00.
