I think the rating system is simply another "perspective" rating.
If someone rates a 10, because they see that carving as a. better than anything they could do, or b. the best they have seen you do, or c. simply because they want to use the 10 rating to encourage, then all is good.
I think that's what they are usually about.

Then, there is the other "perspective" that carvers leave the 10 rating for only the very "best" or they don't think a rating system serves any purpose.
In other words, neither perspective is wrong, but does render the rating system as meaningless without knowing the perspective of the rater.

That is ok Keoma, I got a 1 on one of my carvings where others gave 9s and 10s. Did it bother me? NO, I just considered the source it came from.
And yes, it does depend on what one likes. Personally, I haven't seen a carving I didn't like.

that's my view...it's like judging the clouds in the sky or picking your favorite fall leaf...they are all beautiful and when you put them together they are breathtaking!
