Default okokok...wth...lol

So...I am looking through the carver galleries. I did not know folks had commented on my pictures! Wow thank you! I was looking at everyone else and I saw the ratings. I give 10's...but then I thought has anyone ever not givern a 10? I mean wouldn't that be rude? I am assuming I do not understand the ratings. Obviously. Because no sooner than I thought it...I saw someone gave me an 8. Wtheck? Does that mean they don't like the picture quality or the image of the art itself? Is the ratings given on a level of personal taste and style. Just Curious. Thanx to anyone who has some input for me. On a note, I love all of the carvings I have seen.

Hi Keoma. You got me curious and I had to look. You've got some great stuff I hadn't seen before. That's because I joined after you.

FYI, I got an 8 on one of my carvings, too.

i mostly get 10, like everyone else, but i received an 8 and for another carving a 9 too.

to me ratings are irrelevant, i use the galery only to put larger imags of my carvings. is it not great that we may post images as large as we want there ? where else is that allowed... though i admit many 10 ratings caress my self. and, i think that is what they are meant to for, to give a way to encourage the carver.

oh, and as an afterthought... and i would never give any rating, and certainly never ever i would give a rating less than 10. i prefer to say nothing, it is much better for the carver. a rating less than 10 is hurting, even if you yourself know it might be more accurate than a 10...encouragement is what lets us grow as carvers, if we want critique, i think it is better to post the carving in a thread, and directly ask for the sort of critique wished. then it is expressed in words what is good and what could be improved...a single 8 as rating does not explain anything. just that the person who gave it disliked something in the carving. not helpful at all...

I am with doris on this one. I would like to think that ratings I have received are because the rater truly liked the piece for what it is and my current ability. I know that some who have rated my stuff have made me feel proud to know they liked it, given their amazing ability with the knife and gouge.

those ratings, like "critiques" on the message board should be taken and given in an honest and constructive way.
Evern then those numbers are quite subjective and depend a lot onthe person doing the scoring's perception of the piece, which may depnd on a lot of what he/she thinks is relavent.

I've gotten a loty of 10's and quite a few 8's and 9's on some of my carvings over there, and I've given some others 10's too, but have also listed a few 8's and if I remember right even one or two 6's or 7's.

As far as my numbers go, I thinks that a lot were due to someone not wanting to hurt my feelings, or perhaps they really liked the work, but I look at a "10" as not being able to be improved upon........now, that don't happen often does it? Not that I don't appreciate the tens, but objectively those should have been an 8 or 9 and I would have felt just as good about it.

However, as a way not to discourage beginners, I would suggest an option available to p osters that would block the number rating section and only allow comments unless the p oster checked a box that would allow it.

I agree I dont think that we should put a number on someones work. Who are we to judge? I would never rate anything that way. If someone asks I would give constructive critisism only if they asked and only to improve their skills. We are all artists in our own right and it is like religion who is to say what is right and wrong. I judge nothing or anyone, Race, Religion or life style, that is why I dont compete in shows. Just my two cents worth

Unfortunately, with the software version we have now, it has to be a global change...you can rate everyone's carving, or no one's carving...

We're checking into upgrades right now, but that will happen down the road.

Ok, I am glad to know I am in such good comapny...again
I was thinking, if you want to rate it and use that feature, I think a comment explaining your critiquing should be relevant.
Heres me...
Ok, you don't think it's quite that good...I could improove? So tell me how? It happens to be something I am very proud of, granted, I am not as phenominal as some that I aspire to, but I am wondering about the rating. I would really like to know what it was that they thought.
I am not a judger either, I feel everyone is fantatstic. Like I said, I would like to see a feature that asks you to explain your rating....kinda like ebay does? lol...don't just rate and leave. tell me what you really think...was it the shape? I know as a beginner that I have much room for improovement, and I really enjoy the critiquing, it has made me grow ex·pe·di·tious·ly
in my attempts. Thanx all for your input.

Thanx Bob! I have decided to make it a point that if I rate I will explain why I did so.
