Default Okay I got a gripe...

If I want to post a response, I need to log in.

So I do.

I type my response/post--and some require me to copy and paste links, and edit and do research and so on. In other words, I'm not a genie where I can blink my eyes and all the typing is done in a minute.

I go to submit my post after a short period of time--few minutes to 15 minutes-it varies--and guess what--the WCI forum has logged me out. And if I try to go back to copy my text before I lose it---guess what--IT'S GONE!!! Oh boy, I get to do it all over again!!!

I have tried to see if there is a logout time setting, and I don't see one. I seem to remember others complaining about similar problems.

Please either fix the problem or put it back the way it was. Otherwise, people are going to get discouraged, and not post any more information when trying to help others asking for information or solutions to problems. Not good for WCI, the forum, or the carvers.

BobD, Admin, et al, I am sorry if I am nasty in this posting, but after going through this a few times, it is pretty annoying. Wasting time is not my favorite thing to do--as I always say...I'd rather be carving!

Bob, have you checked the "remember me" thing under the Log In? I don't knowe if that will help or not but it may be worth a try. I think the board is having a few problems. For several days I have been able to do one or two things, read, post, whatever, and then it quiots on me. Doesn't ask for Log In, just quits.

Red face Re: Okay I got a gripe...

Bob and Nancy,
I'm having the same kinds of problems and I've sent a message to Bob D. I'm one of several moderator on this message board and while I certainly don't have all (or sometimes, even some) of the answers, I'm thinking this isn't normal and there's something going on with the board. Friday and Saturday I typed a message four times before I got it to post--got kicked out of my log in--strange messages about not being authorized to post, etc.

Be patient...Bob will get back to us.

Case in point...

http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.co...1488#post51488

I logged in. I put typed up this post--about 10-15 minutes--and I type well but I also want my message to come across without misspellings, missing words--in other words, intelligible. Hit "submit Reply" and it blew me out--told me I wasn't logged in. Fortunately, I did a "copy" in case I needed to "paste" the message again. Pretty annoying ya know...

Bob and Donna,
We've got the log in time set up as high as we can (without totally tieing up all our bandwidth). I've seen this happen before, and the usual culprit is a bad cookie. Have you two deleted your cookies lately? If you've got some malware, they can mess up you logins to sites like this!

I'd download Spybot if you haven't already--it's a free spyware/adware removal program that is updated VERY regularly (important for these kinds of things).

I'll also check with Rob to see if he has any suggestions!

And Bob and Donna, I apologize for your frustrations. And Bob--I'm sure if it happened to me, I'd be a lot more nasty!

Bob

I use "spysweeper" it does a sweep every 24 hrs and keeps my PC clear of nasty cookies and traces. I had the same probs before using this software, and the excess cookies and such slowed my PC alot....my two cents.

I've use the free trial of spysweeper and liked it, but I just don't want to pay for it <grin>

Spybot is free, but isn't updated quite as often as spysweeper. I used to use adaware, but the updates were not often enough for me. And the Microsoft antispyware doesn't work well for me at all...I ran that, then ran Spybot and found a host of malware that the microsoft program didn't find--then again, the microsoft program is in Beta testing, so...

Now, the big question is...do you have any timeout problems, Dave?

I've had the same problem both at home and at work. Both have more security than Fort Knox--Norton, MS etc. Don't really want to download any more security software due to the existing conflicts I deal with now. Beside, the cookies get emptied everyday at work and on a regular basis at home.

I appreciate the effort though. Thanks Bob!
