Default New Post Search

I curious about the policy or mechanism for determining the number of "New s." Sometimes there are 50 or over 100. Then suddenly it is cut to 10. Often this removes the responses to a question from a new member. Why? I realize there has to be a limit to how many new posts are listed, but why does it appear to be based on someone's whim?

Phil, If you go over and click on the quick links, you can see all of the posts for that day.

Hi Phil,

I think the new posts become old posts and fall off the list once you've checked into messages. So, if you log on quickly and then log off, the counter resets.

Sorry if I made it sound complicated.

Ron T has it right. It all depends on your timing.

The forum keeps track of when you log in, and when it performs it's regular purge (a couple times a day), if you've been in recently, it will purge the new posts search for your account, and remove all of the posts made since the last time you were on the board. It's not perfect, especially if you check the forum several times a day.

bobd,
is the new posts linked to your subscribed posts? ive often wondered this..

the way to handle the new posts changing count, is open the threads in a new window or tabs
that way the large group of new posts is not effected in the refresh problem...
