| | Re: new DIY carving programs? The closest I can get to a carving show, on my 500 channel sattelite is "The Woodwrights Shop" The host, Roy Underhill, does some carving, but I like the fact that everyting he makes, he uses traditional tools and techniques, like turning wood on a pedal lathe, and dovetailing with a backsaw and chisels.

| | Re: new DIY carving programs? Ah the old Woodwright with Roy Underhill. Use to have that on our local education channel. Loved it and watching Roy make various items the old way. Yep, miss it for sure. There use to be a carving show on that channel every week also. The last one was several years ago and Butz was carving a deer laying down. But alas, The channel stopped educating us. |

| | Re: new DIY carving programs? Roy Underhill's Woodright Shop was also one of my favorite's too! Back in the mid 1990's I wrote Roy a personal letter asking for permission to bring my woodshop class to his shop for and educational visit.
Roy himself returned my request in a page-long reply polietly explaining that such visits weren't presently possible because of filming restrictions. I still have that letter in my files today and thought that it was really considerate of him to write such a long letter just to say "no".
My favorite all-time episode was when he cut himself quite badly while working on a project and they didn't edit it out. He just shrug it off. I loved he high-strung energy and ability to communicate the art he loved so well... but it seems that he was always looking and talking at the camera instead of keeping his eyes on what his hands were doing with the tools! |

| | Re: new DIY carving programs? If you're interested in DIY programs on the internet. I recently discovered a new website that has a good variety of programming with no commercial breaks. They have a schedule of programing, so you can tune in to what you want to see. They recently had a carving show on relief carving flowers, (Iris). Check it out.

| | Re: new DIY carving programs? It might not be the DIY channel, but there is anew channel out there. It's The Woodworkign Channel. I have seen a couple of shows last week about carving, lots of turning, routing, and other woodworking. To get this channel, go to: http://www.thewoodworkingchannel.com/
This TV is on the internet. I'm not sure how this all works, but I'm sure there is a way to set up a timer, and record the shows you are interested in to your hard drive, or to a CD-R or DVD-R drive. Best of all, this does not cost a penny.
Give it a try.
Thanks,
