Hope they share some of them. I got a huge one for Christmas and have only used it for roasting meats.

I think we should do a poll and vote on the idea. I would be willing to contribute a recipe or more. Great idea Gilly!

I love this idea! I know I'll be sitting outside next to the fire wittlin away while my dutch oven is in the coals cooking. Or my grill. I have just started as of last year getting to know my dutch oven and how to do slow smoking of meats in my grill. Crock pot recipes are nice for not having to take time out to cook when I'm in a carving mood... LOL

We bought a place once that had tons of wood down everywhere. We needed to get rid of the wood. Whenever we went to town for the day, we'd dig a hole, start a big fire over it and let it burn down to coals. We'd then dig most of coals out of the hole, place a dutch oven full of a big hen and lots of vegetables and water , bury it in coals, then bury the coals in dirt until no smoke escaped. We'd go to town, and get home 6 to 10 hours later and have a meal fit for a king!
That was back when my wife and I and our 5 kids lived in a teepee while we restored a house that had been vacant for 15 years...we paid $300 for the house, and $100 an acre for 5 acres under it, in the high desert hills of Eastern Oregon. We restored the house and moved in, but the man we bought it from had a heart attack and died before we ever got it registered at the Court House! His kids fought us for it (one was a lawyer). We lived there 4 years
and finally walked away. Four of the best and hardest years of our lives! got an education in Real Estate transactions and contracts in the process too! (that was Aunt Lilly's homestead, where the apple carving handles that Rick made me came from).

Wade her in Kansas we take a hog and quarter it and wrap it in burlap and chicken wire. We then dig a pit and put the pig in the bottom covered with corrigated tin and then build a fire and leave it for 12-18 hours dig it up and tap the keg.

Gilly:
Take a long look at
http://www.macscouter.com/Cooking/DutchOven.html
As a former Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, etc., I have some experience with the implement, and this web site has quite a few good recipes.

Enjoy!
Claude
