Default Forum Sort Function doesn't seem to work

Probably something I just don't understand.

At the bottom of the page, I have the following 2 settings active:
Sorted By - Last post time
Sort Order - Descending

Here's an example of what I don't understand.

When I go to the General Carving Topic, the dates I see in the "Last post" column, for the various threads, starting at the top and moving down are:
09-13-2006
09-11-2006
03-17-2006
Yesterday
Yesterday
Yesterday
09-25-2006

In my mind, these are not sorted by last post time in descending order. Am I missing something?

Here's a followup on this thread. No one has replied, and I thought maybe it fell through the cracks, so I'm sticking this comment in. If someone could explain this to me, it would be much appreciated.

The thing is, it would be nice to keep track of the most recently active threads by having them grouped at the top of the topic - which they would be if they were sorted by "Last ". The way it is now, there could be recent activity on a thread on the 3rd page which could be easily missed.

I greatly appreciate the tremendous amount of time that regular contributors to the forum are making, so I'm not trying to hurry an answer along. I just wanted to make sure my question wasn't missed.

Dan,

The way I understand it is, that this is the order of how the replies are listed within that thread, not the threads themselves, however, when someone replies to a thread, then this thread is moved up to the top of that threads replies, as new threads are listed, the older threads all move down the ladder, then if you reply to a lower thread, it will move back up to the top.

I keep mine listed from oldest to newest, on the replies, and just page down to the newest reply within that thread.

Hope this helps you. Bill

Dan: The first three you listed will always be out of order, as they are "stickies" which always stay at the top of the column.

Claude,

AHA!!! I had never noticed "Sticky" tags on those threads at the top, and it certainly does answer my question. I checked a few topics and the threads are in order once you eliminate the sticky tagged threads from the picture. Thanks much!
