Exclamation where do i start

hi everyone!i have a question,i love doing wood spirit on bark ,but i always have a lot of problem making realistic eyes.Either they are of center or they seem to be not at the right place.my simple question is where do i startnose or eyes and at what depth should i dig.for more info on what i am talking about,view my pictures gallery.thanks to all.

get some modeling clay and carve away!!!

use your carving tools just like you would for wood, the only cuts you will make will be in the clay. After you cut a while, stand back, look at your work. When you get happy, keep the clay piece and transfer that to wood....OR, if the clay carving doesn't make you happy, smash it down, make a chunk and carve it again....
