We are in the process of deciding how to handle this. It is something we need to tread carefully with (how do we decide who can post, are commercial vendors allowed to post, should commercial vendors need to pay to advertise, how do we handle conflicts). It's not that simple, especially since the reputation of WCI and Fox Chapel rides on this message board! Bob |

Bob JMHO if we allow a classiied section I have a feeling (Maybe I am wrong) that it would consume the message board. If we need to sell things we have Ebay I look forward to the message board but I think that if you do want to have a classified section then it should be seperate from the message forum. Colin

I have often thought about maybe we should have something like a yard sale once in a while. I have a lot of duplicate and triplicate tools in boxes. Having a shop people bring a lot over. I also have a freind who buys out estates and is always bringing something over the shop. I have refrained from posting the excess on the board, but some carvers could probably use what I don't. That being said, A classified section could really open up a can of worms. I think it may be a contravercial issue. I look at this site as family and freinds and would do anything to help them. I don't think commercial vendors would look at us that way. As far as selling carvings, we all have our own nitches and probably don't need to sell to other carvers. Goody

My vote, NO! I think it will take alot away from the board and like Colin mentioned, we always have ebay. I'm afraid if we do have a classified area we're going to be covered up with non-carvers trying to sell us the Brooklyn bridge. If I need info. on where to buy Brand ABC knife, I can post and will probably get some good info. back. I don't need to research the company because I trust the carvers that are on this board. JMHO Thanks, Bob |

As with most things, when profit becomes the sole purpose for the operation, everything goes downhill, would hate to see that happen. I am afraid I already get inklings of that now!

If you seek opinions....mine is to keep the board free of classifieds. If you like, run a classified section in the magazine and charge a nominal fee to post a "for sale" or "seeking to buy". Once you open the door on here, every man and his camel will try for free advertizing. Many of our current members have businesses, and we have been extremely fortunate that none have taken the opportunity to blatanly flog their services or wares, and I appreciate and respect each of them for being so disciplined. Nothing ticks me off faster than someone's first and often only post, is an obvious attempt at gaining entry at a market with out paying for it. I have done business with several of our members and when I am looking for something, I always first try to think of what member might be able to help me while I help their business. Our discussions here have led me to many new purchases and I feel it only fair to support our members who support and encourage so many of our friends here. We are always talking about new tools, books, designs, etc and recommending things that work for us, and if we feel the need, we already feel free to take those discussions off line/private message/e-mail, with out disturbing the others, and make deals to buy, or service, or sell. Just my $0.02 worth. Bob

I'd love to have an area, kind of like a bulletin board, only available to non-commercial trading...maybe even one for commercial, that never popped up unless you chose to click on the link. It could be strictly a Bullitin Board. Any ad that received any complaints could be pulled off imediately by a moderator...keep it a 100% positive link, any complaints removed a person for 6 months. I think it could work. I'd check it daily being addicted to tools etc. Ebay's great, but it'd be nice to know what each of us had to trade...how'd I get 2 Ashley Iles 47 in 1/8"? WCI/Fox could put a disclaimer in it that you had to agree to, as well as other terms. Wade |
