Default Carvers mark's - register?

This is just a thought that occurred to me the other day.

How about a register of carvers marks/signatures?
It seems to me that this is THE place to ask "I have this old carving with a ??? mark on it - who is it by?" So how about a page like the gallery where you can look at, for example Harold Enlows or Lynn O. Doughty or Eddy Smiles Etc. and see the mark that they use as an identification guide. I doubt that there would be a copy-write issue and it may act as an "official" log of carvers past and present.

Just a thought,

Druid

There have been some previous discussions of how members mark their carvings, such as;

work signatures

It is unlikely that we could put together a comprehensive file of markings unless someone has researched the marks of expert carvers of the past.

Hello, Pallin, I am a new guy on here and still trying to find my way around. I answered a post early this morning that I think was yours about a box that you had removed the finnish and did some carving on it that turned out very nice. I came back on here this evening and have been trying to find it and have not been able to.
I just saw your name on here so I thought I would ask you if you would direct me how to find it. At least I hope I wasn't mistaken about it being your post because
I addressed it to you. There are a couple metal detecting forums that I frequent,
but this one seems a little different. LOL. And I am not real familiar with the computer, either, that probably is the cause of my problem..
Thank you.
Have a good day.
Sterling

Mpounders - The photo Sterling was looking for was apparently this one:

CHIP - Woodcarving Illustrated Photo Gallery

as indicated by his added comment. It was not part of a discussion thread.

Thanks, Guys, foor your replies.

Pallin, you are right about it being in the photo gallery. I was really lost here. LOL. I found the one that I was referring to. Then I clicked on your 'Pallin's Gallery and looked at all the things you have done. A good selection and great work done on them. I still have a chain and ball in a cage that I made back in the 70's when I was doing a lot of carving during the long winter months when I was laid off from my carpentry work. We were living in Northern Michigan and the snow was deep with not much outside work once it got started so when I wasn't cross country skiing or hunting, I did a lot of carving. I gave most away for gifts, but still have a few pieces. Have a good day. Sterling
