| | Cannot submit pictures with correct size Help with picture size. I cannot submit Pictures thru "Manage" pictures without getting the following message. These may be pics I've rotated counter clockwise. As you can see my size is shown as 460x676 which in my mind is under the filetype 780x676. What am I doing wrong?
Message:
"The Dimension limits for this filetype are 780 x 580. We were unable to resize your file so you will need to do so manually and upload it again. Your file is currently 460 x 676." |

| | Re: Cannot submit pictures with correct size Xsailer... I ran into the same problem when I started posting. You're either going to have to resize your pictures so that they fall wthin the stated size or rotate the photos so that they fall within the stated criteria.

| | Re: Cannot submit pictures with correct size Thanks Eddie and Thomp but please read the following(I still not getting it): I several questions about the submit process of “Manage Attachments”. #1 On my Adobe Photo Shop 5 the pixel change chart is shown as: Width xxxxx Height xxxxx On the forum the pixels are always referred to as: 780x580 (which one of these numbers is width and height?) I’ve been having a lot of trouble understanding, after several forum rejections, how to fix the problem. I guess if I understood the correlation of my Adobe to your Forum Width to Height it might help. Also I wonder if I’ve rotated my picture clockwise so long is height and short is width instead of the other way around may be a problem. #2 Is there a way to rearrange the multiple pictures once I’ve gone thru the “Manage Attachments” process but not submitted to the forum? In other words, I put the pictures in the wrong order, how can I rearrange them to the correct sequence I want? #3 I wrote apple in http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/f61/oak-apple-tree-relief-carving-13841/ and the word apple was deleted and replaced by a jumping apple and a worm chasing it. What up with this? I didn’t order the “jumping apple” and now somebody reading the sentence won’t be able to figure out what I’m saying. |

| | Re: Cannot submit pictures with correct size I don't thik I can answer all your questions, but as far as the size goes. 640x480 is standard pixel size for my photo processor and the larger number is the width. Pictures with these dimensions are in "landscape" format, or with the larger number being the horizontal one.
If you want to post a picture in "portrait" format, or with the larger number being the vertical one, this number can't exceed the 480 pixel size. If you divide 480 by 640 you get .75 or 75%. That is the amount you have to decrease the overall size of your picture by.
So if you go into your photo processor, adjust your size to 75% of the original, save it in that size and post it from there.
You can figure the proper scale you have to decrease the size of any photo by finding the actual size of you photo in your photo processor then dividing 640 (standard size) by the horizontal size of your photo, and 480 (standard size) by the vertical size of your photo. Take the closest of these figures to the standard, and reduce the size of your photo by that amount. This will keep the aspect ratio of the original and allow you to post the picture.
I usually use Ulead Photo Impact, but also have the Adobe Photo Shop. You can find the size adjustments you need on Adobe under "Advanced", then go to the pulldown text "size" on the top, then drop down to "picture size" and use that to adjust to 640 by 480 pixel size. Don't use the "canvass size" or you will crop your photo to that canvass size....not good!

| | Re: Cannot submit pictures with correct size Same here. When I take a digial picture I always work on it with Microsoft Picture Manager and when I resize it I have a couple of choices and one is "large Web" or 640 X 480.
As for your jumping apple there is a line item on the Reply page where you can disable similes (sp?)... That should take care of that problem.

| | Re: Cannot submit pictures with correct size Thanks you guys.
I'm understanding that in my Adobe Photo Shop pixel change table the Height can never be more that 460 and/or the Width can never be more that 640 in order for the Forum to be able to recieve my photo. This is true even if I rotate the picture to "Portarit" view.
By the way AlArchie, I couldn't find "Advanced" under the "Image" pull down. It went Image, resize, image resize, then the table showing the pixels.
I apoligize for not picking up on your comments especially because I want to know how to do it for future time savings. If my comments are true above then I think I'm there.
thanks again moderators. |

anyway, "Advanced" is on the very bottom of the left hand pull downs on the opening page.

| | Re: Cannot submit pictures with correct size Xsalor,
you probably got the answer you wanted or have given up by now or have given up,
heres what i do when sending pictures into the message base ,
because of the size restraints (the board software was built in the times of slow speed dialups and smaller hard drives so these size restraints were set in)
so i resize them 500x500. and they go right in, intraview has never resized them out of whack if i remember to check the keep aspect ratio checked, as far as doing this in adobe i can't help, that program is like using a sledge hammer doing upholstery work for me. although a powerful program, its too confusing to me i don't have a degree in adobe. i use the powertoy free download resize from microsoft, or intraview a free graphic editor and viewer.
remember besides the image dimension constraint there is a file size constraint. in the message base... as to which demention is which? Who knows it confuses me too... on the board when your uploading files the order you choose them from your computer is what you get, theres nothing you can rearrange after you choose them unless you reselect the files. before uploading. but there is always another way to skin a cat. so dimension and file size, don't play a factor.
you can upload to your gallery album, or a image host like pictrail, or picasa. when the photos are uploaded you can go to the picture, and right click on the picture then from the Grey pop up context menu chose property's, at the bottom it will show image link where it is stored,
you can highlight that information and copy it, then go to the message base write your message just above the message header, find the little yellow box click it and paste in the address of the image of the gallery,
its a lot of sugar for a nickel, but there is no file size or file dimension restraints in the gallery, this means you can upload the original file into the gallery and then have that file show inside the message base without the thumbnails. emoiticons, (the apple with the hammer things.) disable smiles in text, to get rid of these annoying emoiticons that jump in places and take over the text of the message.
located in Miscellaneous Options, the last check box just above the manage attachments button. hope this helps a little relieving the problems without over complication |

I've made a copy of your suggestions and will play with them later when my head quits aching. As you know it's difficult trying to understand computer programing. I always look for the logic of a situation. With computers there is NO logic a lot of times. Sorry programers. |

| | Re: Cannot submit pictures with correct size I save picture to the desktop.Right click it,then chose the 640x480.And you will have it on the desktop with the original.Which I usually delete. And you have no problem sending that . Image Resizer
This PowerToy enables you to resize one or many image files. When resizing you can choose from one of four standard sizes or choose a size that you specify. You can also choose to resize the original image or create a new one. Right click any image(s) and select 'Resize Pictures' in the context menu. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx
