How about some articles by Chris Lubkeman as a follow up to his new book on branch whittling. I have enjoyed Chris's writing in the past. It is both informative and interresting. His classes have also been very helpful and entertaining. Whittling branches into various birds, letter openers, etc. is very relaxing and anyone can do a great job. Certainly the outlay for equippment - one two bladed pocket knife and branches from the pruning pile - is cheap enough.

[Twig Carver]

I recently received his new book and am whittlin' away. I sent a question but don't know where to find the answer so will ask it here. To make a whistle(grandsons are impatiant), Chris said to let the twig dry a while prior to carving. What is a while. Also I have made several of the Jelly Spreaders from the last issue of WCI. I used lacquer on a couple but have bought some food safe bowl material in a pint can from Woodcraft. Is the spray lacquer okay?
