| BobD.... Time and time again we get folks asking questions concerning classes, where to buy tools, what wood to carve with, local clubs... etc...etc...etc.. and when one of the forum members goes to answer their question they find that they have provided absolutely no infomration in their profile to indicate where they live....nada, zero, zilch! I concur wholeheartedly that members need to protect themselves from identity theft and should keep any infomation provided as generic as possible ( a concept not totally agreed with by all members) but what harm would come from making it a mandatory entry to provide "STATE" or in the case of our Canadian brothers and sisters, "PROVIDENCE", or others, "COUNTRY"? I don't think that in providing such a generalized piece of information that anyone is going to place themselves in a position of being identified if they so choose not to be. But, many times it means the difference between discussing apples and oranges when obviously what may be available here in the US is not available, say in the UK, Germany, or Austrailia. I think that as a result of this infomation being provided the answers would be much more relevant and infomational for the person doing the asking. Just a thought!

I received an email from Tom Matus about having a color foram. How do I find it?

I agree with you Eddy. I like to know where people are from too, it is always helpful and sometimes you find you have another connection with that person.

As Eddy states, it is difficult to answer someones question when you don't know where they're from. Often it takes a number of posts just to get the basics before you can get to the question. I think that's a waste of time and I believe that some members edon't bother to post answers because of that reason.

I too would like to at least see where people are from. I don't generally answer if that info is not available. My reason is that I am always on the lookout for people from my area. You know recruiting newbies for the local club. My two cents worth....

Right on Eddy! I too look for newbies to join the local clubs. It sometimes takes 3 or 4 msgs to find they live in the other end of the state. A little info would help alot. Bill K. |
