Dave, one of our club members has made a bunch of these from mesquite, while he winters in Texas. I think I have patterns for them somewhere. If you'd like I'll dig around and see if I can find them. Maybe at the club's library. so that won't be for another week or so.
One of the carving groups that I belong to made a few of those frogs - of different sizes they sound a lot like the various frogs in our pond. The are much more resonant if somewhat hollowed. I tried to hollow mine with a ball cutter on a dremel-like tool - just getting to what I could from the hole. Some folks cut or broke theirs from the hole down to the tail end, hollowed them, and glued them back together. They "croak" louder if you try to touch only the bottom while stroking the raised spine with the "croaker stroker"

I have one that looks somewhat like yours, but it came from Vietnam. A friend went on a trip there and bought it for me as a gift. A year or so later he gave me a gift from his trip to China, a set of wise men carved from wood. They are still packed up from the move. I will post pictures of them when I find them.
