The wood is tupelo, and I made the pattern . thanks for the comments, they are a fun little bird to carve. the hardest job was slimming down that long bill without breaking it.

Don't do the competition thing. Just carve for myself, and get my blue ribbon when the customer pays me. I enjoy touring the carving shows, lots to learn, different ideas, and lots of good people to talk to.
