Hi Wayne, I drilled a small pilot hole through the woodpecker and the supports, then drill in from both sides to prevent it breaking. also I used a piece of hardwood for the pivot pieces, thinking it would take the stress a little better. I save everything, but can't imagine what I did with the original pattern. I also make mine to fit over a door bell.
Wayne, I think I'm slipping a cog here. I just looked at my door knocker, and I made it all from Pine. This is getting bad.

Made a couple of them, and put that one on Maritime Auctions. It hasn't sold yet.

Cut one out today and got two coats of black gloss paint on the bird and got the mounting brackets on the board and painted. All the holes are drilled and no problems so far. Just used some scrap pine I had laying in the scrap bin.

I did find out that I need some new blades for my band saw's,Lol. Mike

Great job, he looks like he is really waiting to get in. Wayne,I wouldn't want Santa hanging around all year. Once a year is bad enough. It might give my wife the idea to shop all year.

Santa can knock at my door all he wants but he's not getting in unless the gifts are free!, Lol. We have a lot of Bear around here so I was thinking of maybe trying to draw out a black bear for one. Maybe have him knocking with his paw ;0) Mike

Hugh
Had not thought of that

Maybe not a good idea to have a Santa door knocker

Mike
You figure out that Black bear
I would like to have a pattern for that myself

You must live near the great Smokey Mountains
or Applacian Mountains

I can trace the pattern on the wood and cut it out

designing something new or drawing something new is beyond me
