Default Wolf ON the round?

I thought this was worth puting here rather than beginer carving 'cos it's an animal, i still still have water wings on but my better half wanted it so i gave it a go.
It's carved out of a piece of pine handrail that has a flat back. I finished it with teak oil. It needs a small shelf added to take a candle holder.

I know it could be better (like 10 years) but i did the best i could. I understand that you guys will only be constructive!.

I'm going to start myself off with - some stain would bring the wolf out more!

Hi Les,

I wouldn't make any excuses or this carving. You did a real nice job and the finish looks good, too. You might want to think about carving that on the top of a stick, I think he would look super.

What kind of wood is it?

Sorry about the delay in replying, my 'net has been down.
Ron - your right it would make a good stick, i still think of sticks as starting at the thickness of a stick and i'm only just getting to think that you can start from 4 or 5 inches (or more) and thin them down!
Looks like i have an excuse for buying a spokeshave!
