Thank you all for your kind comments.

Bob--You're right--that is exactly what's wrong. I just could not figure it out. I think I get too impatient towards the end of the project and want to get onto the next one instead of figuring out how to improve the one I am workin on. Thanks again for the help.

Thats a good looking wolf, but if you have ever seen one up close, they are tall, long, lanky and really pretty thin in the face, but what the hay! most people wouldn't have a clue if they have never seen one live. ...either way, you did a good job!

A wolf looks very much like my Siberian Husky, and she makes a great model. (Wolves aren't quite as heavy and the plains wolf is leggier than a timber wolf.) I spend a lot of time with her, so I know her shape pretty well. Every time my Granddaughter comes in the house, she throws back her head in your poise and Hhhhoooowwwwwl's a greeting......play time!!! Here she is getting lessons on bowl ettiquet!

It looks like a wolf cub, you can say it is a pup and then you are on the other side . As a carver, i'm in the same stage than you, still a bit afreid of how much wood take off without ruin the piece. I'm even remaking some because after a few months seems that all look a bit fatty. i think is part of the learning process.

Hi Ed,
YUP--He told me, and told me, and told me "need to take more off of it". Unfortunately we were running out of class time for me to get it done for my friends birthday and I think he could tell I was a little frustrated with the project--I have a short attention span.

Great job on the wolf. I tried to do one once from Mary Duke Guldans book A Woodcarvers Workbook Carving Animals. At the time my son had a dog that was a cross between a chow and a black lab and my carving looked just like it so I told him it was a carving of his dog and gave it to him. He was pleased and I tried not to show my frustration.
